Development Manager
Terms of Reference
MarAlliance seeks an experienced and motivated Development Manager to lead and expand its global fundraising initiatives. This role will drive resource mobilization to support marine wildlife science and conservation across multiple tropical countries, with a focus on diversifying funding sources, strengthening donor relationships, ensuring grant compliance, and enhancing the organization’s visibility.
Location: Remote in the PST to EST time zones, preferably in the US.
Reports To: Executive Director
Contract Type: Full-time
Salary Range: USD 65k–75k
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and donor engagement strategy.
Cultivate and steward relationships with individual and major donors, foundations, corporations, and multilateral agencies.
Lead grant prospecting, writing, submission, and reporting processes.
Oversee donor communications, campaigns, and visibility initiatives.
Align fundraising efforts with programmatic priorities by collaborating with field teams.
Build a legacy giving program and a capital campaign to fund an endowment.
Manage and optimize CRM systems and donor databases.
Coordinate donor events, field visits, and virtual engagement opportunities.
Support the Executive Director and Board in high-level fundraising efforts.
Mentor development and professional staff or interns as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum 7 years of proven success in nonprofit fundraising, preferably within conservation or scientific sectors.
Demonstrated ability to secure significant grants and gifts (6–7 figures).
Strong knowledge of U.S. and international philanthropic trends.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be a native or completely fluent English speaker; fluent Spanish is an asset.
Proficiency in CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and donor management tools.
Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently in a multicultural, remote team environment.
Passion for marine conservation and MarAlliance’s mission (maralliance.org).
Deliverables:
Achieve or exceed annual fundraising targets.
Expand and diversify the donor base.
Ensure timely and accurate grant submissions and reports.
Improve donor retention and engagement metrics.
Increase organizational visibility among key donor audiences.
Duration & Compensation
Full-time position with a salary commensurate with experience and small NGO standards (range of USD 65k–75k annually). Benefits include paid vacation, health insurance and communications stipends, up to 10% domestic and international travel. Initial one-year contract, renewable based on performance and funding availability.
