Misael Canto

Comunications & Outreach Officer

Raised in the beautiful Village of San Antonio, Cayo, Misael became curious about nature at an early age. When it was time to choose a career, it was easy for him to choose Hospitality and Tourism Management as he could then share the beauty of Belize to not only locals but also visitors from Abroad. With over 15 years of experience in Belize Service Industry and over 5 years of experience in Sustainable Tourism, Storytelling, Marketing and Outreach, Misael is excited to share a unique perspective to communication and outreach efforts by Mar Alliance.
As an amateur biodiversity and conservation planning enthusiast and during his role as the Sustainable Tourism Specialist for the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), Misael assisted greatly with the updating of the National Manatee Recovery Plan (2015), National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2016) and the creation and implementation of a National Wildlife Communication Strategy (2017) for Belize in Partnership with the Belize Forest Department and the Houston Zoo. A short story publication by the Belize Book Industry Association won him 2nd Place for the Belize Literary Prize in 2015.
