She grew up by the sea, and from an early age discovered her calling: to protect it.
While studying engineering, she began working with bull sharks in Playa del Carmen, embarking on a career that combines science, conservation, and public policy. She holds a Master’s degree in Business and another in Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Development, complementing her practical experience as a professional diver. Thanks to this comprehensive vision, she generates key information for the design of public policies that protect both sharks and the communities that depend on them.
She has been a key player in the process of regulating bull shark diving activities in Playa del Carmen, participating in the formulation of solutions, policies, and regulatory instruments within the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve. In addition, she leads community science projects in the region.
As an author and photographer, she has contributed to publications in renowned national and international media outlets.
For her outstanding career and contributions to shark conservation in the Mexican Caribbean, in 2025 she received the Ramón Bravo Prieto Medal of Merit, awarded by the Quintana Roo Congress. That same year, she was named Citizen of the Year by Grupo Salinas and received an honorary doctorate from the National Academy of History and Geography.
