Sobeida Nuñez

Research Officer

Sobeida Nuñez graduated from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She began her career in the management of marine-coastal protected areas as an intern at the PROLANSATE Foundation, a co-managing organization of Blanca Janeth Kawas Fernández National Park (PNBJKF) and Punta Izopo National Park (PNPI). She later served as Executive Director of the Tela Reef Friends Association (AMATELA), a co-managing organization of the marine protected area “Tela Bay Marine Wildlife Refuge,” where she led various marine-coastal planning processes, environmental education initiatives, monitoring and research projects, protection activities, and fundraising efforts for the MPA.

Sobeida Nuñez is also a member of the Post-Storm Reef Brigade Committee for Tela Bay and the Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program (MAR). She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Project Formulation, Management, and Evaluation at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).

Sobeida has experience working with local communities and authorities, implementing environmental education projects, strengthening institutions, and conducting research on water quality, coastal dunes, and seagrasses.
