Sophia Clark-Ioannou

Sophia brings extensive experience in administration and operations to MarAlliance and has a strong interest in helping the organisation streamline workflows and increase efficiency.

A passion for environmental science has always underpinned Sophia’s career and studies. She holds a BSc in Geography from Loughborough University and has diverse lab and field experience on projects across the UK, Australia, Croatia, and Indonesia. She spent four years at Curtin University, Australia, where she used environmental DNA (eDNA) to help monitor and restore ecological damage from mining within the ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration and then worked as a Technical Officer within the School of Molecular and Life Sciences, providing operational and technical support for laboratory and fieldwork activities across environmental and marine science disciplines. 

She later built on these skills in the corporate sector, acting as key operational support to the founding director of a fast-growing business. Sophia is now excited to bring this experience into the non-profit sector, supporting MarAlliance’s mission to rewild our seas.

Always fascinated by the underwater world, Sophia took her first scuba dive in 2015 and is thrilled to work with an incredible team of people driving conservation action for threatened marine wildlife. Outside of work you’ll find Sophia travelling, playing around on a yoga mat or learning Spanish.
